Update on the murder of a beloved community member

Today, Michael James Chalmers appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court, charged with the murder of a 62-year-old woman at 149 Rainbow Garden in Footscray. Her name has not been released, and we do not yet have this information at Vixen.

We understand the deep pain and confusion that comes from grieving without knowing who we have lost. There may be reasons for this decision, perhaps out of respect for her family’s wishes, but it doesn’t make this loss any easier to bear.

This tragedy cuts deeply into our community. When violence touches one of us, it affects us all. We feel the weight of this together because we share not just our work but our humanity, our stories, and our resilience.

In times like this, we lean on each other. Let’s continue to connect in solidarity and hold space for our grief, our rage, and our collective strength.

For sex workers wishing to come together in collective grief for our beloved community members, Justice For Our Sisters and Vixen warmly invite you to a sex worker-only grieving space next week ❤️

When: Wednesday December 11, 6pm-8pm.
Where: Vixen, 5 Merrifield St Brunswick
