Update on the ongoing investigation of the murder of a beloved community member, and a call for solidarity.

Late yesterday, December 4 2024, Victoria Police charged a 35-year-old-man for the murder of a 62-year-old woman at 149 Rainbow Garden in Footscray. Police allege that the woman was killed in the early hours of Wednesday, 27 November.

The man will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at 10am this morning. We will share the outcome of this hearing this afternoon.

We still do not yet have formal confirmation of the woman’s identity, and we understand how distressing this continued uncertainty is for our community. We will share her name as soon as it becomes available.

The flower tribute for our beloved community member continues to grow. We invite community to express our collective love, grief, and support by continuing to add flowers to this tribute.
